Q:

We recently purchased a house with a Smart Choice softener and Smart Choice AIF system. The water has a bad (sulfurish) smell to it .I would think it's due to the AIF. Some days aren't as bad as others. It is set for 1 day operation. Is that a good ballpark setting for a 2 person household? It also has a slow discharge from the drain hose. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

Q:

I am tasting salt in my water, I have a sears water softner model 625.38825 it is on 13, do I have to lower it.

A:

The softener may not be functioning properly during regeneration.  There will be a certain amount of sodium in
the water after softening, though if you never tasted it before, it would
indicate an issue with the unit.  The
hardness setting should be set according to your water conditions.

Conditioning of NJ in Wyckoff.  They can

Q:

Hi. I have a model WS1 Demand, installed about 2 yrs ago. I noticed last week that the 'gallons remaining' was no longer changing, even though we are using water normally. The bypass valves are not closed, and everything seems to be functioning as normal. The clock works, the display works, the buttons work. I watched it several days and the 'gallons remaining' continued to stay at 1596. I unplugged the unit for a few minutes and plugged it back in, but that didn't seem to make any difference. A few days ago, I pressed 'regen' and the 'regen today' status light flashed as it should, and it did regenerate that night at the designated time. Still, the gallons remaining is not counting down. Any ideas what could be going on? Again, apart from the gallons remaining not counting down, it all seems to be functioning as normal.

A:

Hello,

It sounds like the meter is not working on your

troubleshooting guidelines.  Your local dealer can also help with parts
and service.

provider or parts. Thanks

Q:

I have a WS-1system and have notice then when the softened water capacity get below 225 gallons remaining the iron content in my water goes up. This results in toilet water and water turning yellow when it is heated on the stove. I had the meter in the softener replaced earlier this year and I wondering if something is off with the way it is measuring capacity. Any help is appreciated.

A:

You may have a leak at a fixture, such as a toilet or
faucet, that is too little for the meter to detect.  A common issue is
with a toilet flapper kit or float. This would cause channeling in the resin
bed and capacity drain.  The hardness setting may need to be adjusted to
compensate for the hardness and iron in your well water, especially if the iron
has increased over time.

Please contact your local contractor for service if you
continue to experience these issues.

Q:

Hi, we just purchased a house that has an Aqua Systems system on the outside of the house. We were curious how much it would cost someone to come out and inspect our system to see if it is still in good working condition. We think it may be a reverse osmosis and water softener system. Additionally, since our system is on the exterior of the house we noticed that the top of the water softener is easily accessed. We found a few ants and spiders floating around. Is there away to provide a better seal, and, also, is there a way to get a system that can be locked to avoid any unwanted/accidental tampering by wildlife? We are also curious if Aqua Systems provides any way to remove the sulfuric odor from our water. Thanks, Mike Siebenaler 507-301-1134

Q:

i have well water with a whole house pre-filter for sediment. do your new units have a filter built in for sediment? i have your series 9000 purchased in 2001 and have iron iron problems with unsoftened water. yout unit has done a great job till now. i am having a service tech. come out because i am not drawing brine and the brine tank has rust stains in the float mechanism tube. i have a lot of salt slurry in bottom of brine tank

A:

Hello Sir, The water softeners have injectors to help protect the control valves but they can become plugged with sediment and iron over the years.  Periodic service is necessary to help the control valve and system.  If you prefer to have a pre-filter housing installed please schedule it through our service department at 317-272-3000. Thank you for your business and have a good day.

Q:

I have a smartchoice 150tnmb it just regenerated 5 days ago and I have set to off to go by gallons used, now it reads 350gallons remaining and that it is going to regenerate today. what am I doing wrong, please help? thank you

A:

Hello,

The system only regenerates based on gallons used.  So my guess is you used more water over the Holiday than normal.  It was going to regenerate based on the amount of gallons left because your daily average was over the 350 gallons for the past few days.  Also, if your outside spigots happen to be hooked to the water softener and you don't bypass it you can use more water through the water softener that way.  Please feel free to give our service department a call if you still have questions.  Thank you for your business and have a good day.

Q:

my water softer ran in the backwash cycle for 5 hours becuase it was un pluged is it now ruined?

A:

Please call the service department at 317-272-3000 and they will give you repair options on the softener.  Aqua Systems’ WCC and SmartChoice units are designed with exchangeable valves for ease of service.  We are open 8am-2pm today and 8am-6pm Monday through Friday.

Thanks for your inquiry and have a great day.

Q:

We have a 9 yr old smart choice water softener. Our water pressure is diminished. We had to use the bypass function to get our pressure up. What might the problem be?

A:

Hello,

If the water softener is not getting water pressure while in service, but getting pressure with the unit in bypass then the problem is with the resin bed (mineral tank).  The resin bed would need to be replaced.  Please give us a call if we can be of any assistance.  317-272-3000.  Thank you for your business.

Q:

Water level is high in the salt tank. What is the problem?

A:

High water in the salt tank may be caused by clogged screen and/or injectors or the unit not cycling properly.  Please call the service department at 317-272-3000 for assistance or to schedule a service call.

Thanks for your inquiry.

Q:

I have a 12 year old Model 5600 softener that wasn't cycling. I tried to restart the cycle by turning the manual regeneration knob, but it's unclear how to do it. Is there a simple method to get it back onto the correct cycling?

A:

You may turn the knob clockwise to “regen” to initiate a regeneration cycle, but if the unit stopped cycling on its own, there is definitely a service issue.  The timer may be out, pins may not be set correctly or there is no electricity to the unit.  Please call the service department at 317-272-3000 for assistance or to schedule a service call.  Thanks for your inquiry.

Q:

How do I change the salt setting on a Series 9000 time model to use more salt. I just replaced the timer head but my water is still fairly hard and rusty.

A:

The salt setting should be at 8 pounds for a one cubic foot system and 12 pounds for a 1.5 cubic foot system.  To adjust the setting, remove the back cover and locate the white plastic indicator which is above the piston.  You can loosen the set screw to adjust the pounds if needed.  We can test your hot and cold water from a bathroom and raw water from the well to determine how the system is performing.  Please call service at 317-272-3000 if you have any questions.

Thanks for your inquiry

Q:

My system has the red screen of death showing. It says no draw and brine unused. I don't see it covered in the troubleshooting section of the manual. Any words of wisdom?

A:

HI

It is just letting you know it did not suck the water from the salt tank for some reason. I would suggest manually cycling your softener and see if that takes care of the problem. If that doesnt fix the problem you might want to check the injector and screen to see if there is a blockage. If that doent do it you will probably need us to come out and take a look at the system. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

We purchased a Smart Choice High Efficiency unit. I have a few questions: 1) What are you suppose to do after you get a "Low Salt" warning. I loaded salt but wasn't sure what to push on the control? Next? Regen? 2) I noticed some brownish stain on the bottom inside of the brine chamber and a couple of the salt wells with a brownish color. Have you seen this problem before? How do you get rid of it? Where did it come from? Is this something I should clean?

A:

Hi

You can push any button and the softener will go by to its normal display. The softener puts hard water back into the salt tank so it is not unusual to see some dis-coloration in the salt tank. You can clean the stains but they will come right back and they do not hurt anything. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

I purchased a water softner from my neighbor who is moving. they purchased it new from you. Do you guys uninstall and reinstall? If so can you give me an approximate cost to do this? thank you, Julia

A:

Hi Julia

If it is one of our softeners we charge $60.00 to dis-connect and move the softener. If your home is roughed in for a softener we charge $150.00 to re-install at your home. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

I have a WCC water softener from Aqua Systems and the service light is blue on the digital read out. What does that mean?

Q:

We have an aqua systems water softener for about 6 years now. All of a sudden our dishes are coming out of the dishwasher with white film on them. There is salt in the softener. What do you suggest we do?

A:

You may bring a hot and a cold sample from a bathroom sink to our store for testing or you may schedule a service call at 317-272-3000.  The in-store water test is free and will help determine the cause of your water spots.  Please e-mail or call if you have any questions. Thank you,

Q:

I stated manual regeneration and the display is flashing between countdown time and "dn". What is "dn"?

A:

Hi

The DN means your softener is programmed for down flow brining system. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

The salt holding tank (brine tank) seems to be holding excessive water. In the past, there was just a little water in the bottom, but now it is approximately 75% full. I need some advice as to the normalcy of this and whether we should have someone service the system.

A:

Hi

If the salt tank is holding that much water normally either the brine valve is stuck open or something is clogged in the injector not allowing it to draw the water from the salt tank. If you are still getting soft water the brine valve is probably stuck. If you are getting hard water the injector is probably clogged. If you would like to service a service call Their number is 1-800-447-5582. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

My SmartChoice GenII is scheduled to regenerate tonight, I don't want it too, so do I turn one or both BYPass knobs to the off position? Also can I leave it that way for a couple of days?

A:

You may turn both knobs off and leave them off for as long as you like.  The display screen will turn red and say “no brine draw” after it tries to regenerate.  When you are ready to put it back in service, just turn the knobs back on and press the “regen” button.  You may press and hold “regen” to make it cycle immediately instead of waiting until 2 am.  The red screen will disappear once the unit has cycled properly.

Please call the service department at 317-272-3000 if you have any questions.

Q:

Water pressure in our house is very low when two taps or more are open. It is fine with just one open. Our outside faucets are not affected. Since they are isolated from our water softner it made me think I should bypass the softner and see how the water pressure is. It seems fine with multiple taps open with the softner bypassed. What is the problem with the water softner?

A:

The water softener resin bed and distributor tube may need to be replaced.  Please call the service department at 317-272-3000 for more information and repair/replacement options.  Thanks for your inquiry.

Q:

I have an Aqua Systems WS1 Demand softener, and I am confused about the hardness setting. Carmel Utilities represents that the water is softened to 5 grains, but that can vary with demand. The manual states that the default setting for hardness is 20, the unit is set to 18, but I don't know what that number represents. I had understood that softened water would be zero grains. Some people using the water have remarked that it does not seem very soft, and we are still getting water spots on dishes and glass shower doors. Should I adjust the hardness setting on the unit, and if so what settings or range of settings should I consider? Also, we recently had a power failure but the unit appears to have retained its time settings, is there anything I need to do to reset the unit?

A:

Hi

20 represents the grains of hardness. When the softener is set right your water should be zero soft. I done a water test on Carmel city water yesterday and it tested 29 grains hard. The city must have quit softening the water again this summer. You will need to set the hardness from 18 to 29 to stay in soft water. That will keep you from getting spots on the dishes and shower doors. If there is a power failure you should not have to do anything to your softener unless the power is out for an extended period of time.(More than 3 hours} Please let us know if we can help

Q:

I have a SmartChoice Softener that is about 7 years old. The salt in the brine tank is caking and bridging, despite my attempts to break it up. I assume that I need to clean the brine tank. Can you send me instructions on how to clean the brine tank? Any do's or don'ts to know?

A:

Hi

If you are using Mortons or another pellet type salt they do have some fillers in them that will tend to fall apart and get mushy in the salt tank. It is good idea to let the salt get low between fill ups that will help keep the salt moving and help with the salt getting hard. If you pour warm water right over the salt that will help dissolve it quicker. You can pour 3 to 5 gallons over the salt as long as the tank doesnt over flow. That should keep you from having to clean out the tank. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

I have a aqua system, model 255 100 T. The timer is turning but the system is not coming on. Thoughts?

A:

If your timer is working but not cycling the unit, there may not be any skipper pins pushed in to trigger regeneration.  Another possibility is the timer gear binding and preventing cycling.  Please call the service department at 317-272-3000 for further assistance.  Thank you.

Q:

I'm having problem with timer on my water softner unit. Is there a way to troubleshooting problem?

A:

Hello,

You can test the outlet by plugging in another small electric device to make sure it is working.  If it is the timer, you may purchase a new one for around $50 or swap the entire control valve for $150 if your unit is a WCC model.  It is easy to disconnect the valve and it can be taken to our store to swap. We also offer a trade-in discount toward the new SmartChoice Gen II softeners if you are interested in upgrading to a new, more efficient model with a 7 year in home warranty.

Please call the Fishers store at 317-594-0644 for more information or the service department at 317-272-3000 if you would like to schedule a service call.

Thanks for your inquiry and have a nice day.

Q:

I am moving and use your bottled water. Do you buy back the base? Unfortunately where I am moving you do not serve. Thank you. By the way, I have loved your service and wish you were in CA. Thank you.

A:

Hi

We normally do not buy back water dispensers. It is very hard to sell used dispensers. Thank you choosing Aqua Systems and good luck with your move

Q:

I am looking for a manual for an Aqua system Wcc 32 T water softener. I just moved into a new home and they had no manual

A:

Hi

You can get a copy of the manual for the softener you have from our website under products and services. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

We are remodeling our basement and the contractor moved our SmartChoice water softener near the water heater. After that our hot water is very salty. Is it because of moving? If salty water is because of distance, then what should I do, move back to original place? Thanks.

A:

Hi

If you are getting salty water I would suggest checking the drain to be sure it is not restricted or kinked somewhere. It sounds like the excess salt is not getting backwashed out like it should. As long as the drain is not restricted, distance should not be a problem. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

My Aqua System water softener is low on salt (I don't know what model the softener is because the sticker on the back of it is faded). When I checked inside it, though, the water inside was brown and there was a lot of sediment in there as well. I'm assuming I shouldn't just add salt to it. Should I use a shop vac and suck it all out, or should I call someone to service it?

A:

Hi

The dis-coloration is normal. The softener puts hard water in the salt tank so it will look a little dis-colored. The sediment can be removed with a shop vac. When you are finished cleaning the tank just add about 5 gallons of water back into the tank and add salt. You should be all ready to go again. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

i lost my manual for my smart choice generation 1. can i get a copy on line?

A:

Hi

You can get a copy of the owners manual from our website under products and services. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

Our Hague Model 96 water softener is about 14 years old. Over the last year or so our water has not been as soft (even some green lime scale on some of the faucets) and our water pressure seems low. Is this a repairable problem or is it time to consider a replacement? Thanks.

A:

Hi

If your softener is 14 years old and you are having pressure problems it sounds like the resin has gone bad. It is normally less expensive to replace the softener than to have it repaired. Chlorine in the city water will de-grade the resin in 12 to 15 years and it will need to be replaced. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

where can I find operation manual for SmartChoice Gen II system

A:

Hi

You can get a copy of the owners manual for the softener that you have from our website under products and services. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

If we let our water softener tank go without salt for a while, do we need to descale, clean, or do any other maintenance on the tank before we refill it with salt?

A:

Hi

It really doesnt hurt the softener to run out of salt you will just get hard water. Just fill it with salt when you are ready to use the system again and you will be all set. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

I need a manual for an Aqua Systems Model "255 100 T" Where can I get one of those?

A:

Hi

You can get a copy of an owners manual from our website under products and srvices. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

We have Smart Choice softener. Brine is flashing and making strange noise. What is happening. Never notices before. It is approx 9 years old

A:

Hi

It sounds like your softener is in a regeneration cycle. You may want to check to make sure the time of day is set correctly and check the regeneration time so it is set at 2:00 AM. If those times are set correctly you may want to contact our service Department at 1-800-447-5582. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

What troubleshooting steps do you recommend after regenerating manually and still no soft water. It's been about a week; we have salt and have tried to jumpstart things by hitting regen, but still no luck. Could it have been triggered by using the bypass? Seems to happen afterward? There are no error messages and the troubleshooting pages in the manual don't offer advice for anything that doesn't. Thanks for your help!

A:

Hi

If you use hot water while the softener is in by-pass you will get hard water in the hot water heater and it takes 2 to 3 days to get the hot water heater flushed out. If that is not the problem, we will probably need to take a look at the softener. You are welcome to bring us a sample from a hot and cold water faucet from a bathroom and we can test the water and see if it is soft or not. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

which manual do I need for model WCC32T water softener?

A:

The WCC manual can be found here:

http://ilovemywater.com/uploads/manuals/manual141.pdf

Please call 800-272-5511 to locate a service provider in your area.

Thank you.

Q:

My ro system is producing a very thin stream of water and after about 4 cups, no water at all. I have replaced the cartridges within the last 90 days so I'm pretty sure it's the tank. A few years ago I had to put air in it, like a bike tire, to a certain psi but I can't remember what that magic number is or what the procedure is for valves open vs closed, tap on or off, that sort of thing. Thank you!

A:

  REPRESSURIZING R/O HOLDING TANKS

1.  Shut off feed water to system.

2.  Open (flip up) lever on R/O faucet.

3.  Apply air (using bicycle pump, air tank, or air compressor) to holding tank at air valve.

4.  Water will flow out of faucet.  Stop applying air when water flow stops.

5.  Check air pressure with low air pressure gauge.  Correct pressure is 7-9 lbs.

6.  Shut off lever at faucet and turn on feed water to system.

7.  Allow tank to re-fill water. If problem continues after following these steps, call (317) 272-3000 or 800-447-5582 for further assistance.

Q:

After cleaning my empty brine tank, Will the system automatically add water back into the tank once I reconnect the line? Or will I need to add water? And if so how much water do I add?

A:

The brine tank needs approximately 6-10” of water in the bottom or at least one inch above the salt grid if equipped with one.  You may add water manually or turn the valve to the “brine refill” position until the correct amount of water has filled the tank.

Please call the service department at 317-272-3000 or 800-447-5582 if you have further questions.

Q:

I can't get my system to accept the set-up progam. what can I do?

A:

Hi

You will probably want to contact our service Department. They can look up what system you have and walk you thru the set up procedure. They can be reached at 317-272-3000. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

I was looking at the first question below - " about having the orange beads in the water" additionally I have no water pressure. Is there a way to bypass the system until a technician can come?

A:

Hi

Most softeners have a by-pass valve on the back where the water lines come into the softener so you can shut the softener off entirely or there may be 3 shut off valves in your homes plumbing. Open the middle valve and shut off the 2 outside valves and that will by-pass the softener also. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

I have one of your RO system. I recently put new filters and a new membrane. It worked great for a few months. Now I am getting little to no water, sometimes cloudy. I emptied the tank and repressurize it with a air pump. It did not fill up the tank. I checked all the connections and everything seems good. Do you have a suggestion or do I need someone to come check it out? If I need a service call what is the pricing? Thank you

A:

Hello,

It is possible that the tank has too much air in it.  We recommend 7-9 pounds of pressure on a standard sized tank when the tank is completely empty of water.  Other possibilities are a clogged pre-filter or a restriction in the drain line.  Please call the service department at 317-272-3000 for assistance by phone.  The charge for a service call is $93.50 plus parts, if needed.

Thanks for your inquiry and have a nice day.

Q:

I have an aqua systems that is holding too much water. What is this from?

A:

Hi

If you are still getting soft water it is probably a bad brine valve. If you are not getting soft water it could be a clogged injector or a bad air check assembly. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

The timer on my water softener appears to have stopped working. In the manual it mentions reseting the time/date. I'm not sure if I know what that means. I changed the time of the day hoping that would mean I reset it, but it still has not kicked on. What is meant by reset? I know I have power, since I can turn the knob and it will kick off. If I need to replace the timer, how much will that cost and can I purchase this from you? I believe that I have a 5600 series water softener. Thank you, -Dave

A:

Please contact the service department at 317-272-3000 or visit one of our stores and we will be happy to explain the system in detail.  A new timer motor is $54.55 + tax, if needed.  Aqua Systems of Fishers is located at 11345 Allisonville Road.  We are open 8am-6pm Monday-Friday and 8am-2pm Saturday.

Thanks for your inquiry and have a nice day.

Q:

We have one of your water softners; I can not find a model number on it...We have been told by Larry Litzelman that now that our family is getting smaller I can change the regeneration to every 3 or 4th day...Please email several manuals as how I might change these frequencies....This is an older model maybe 10 pluis yrs old. It is a mechanical wheel on a timmer nothing digital or electronical....My name is : Tom weisenbach on 8429 Tranquility Fishers In

A:

Hi Tom

On the model you have if the pins are pushed out away from the center those are the days it will regenerate. When they are pushed in towards the center it will skip those days. You can get a copy of the owners manual from our website under products and services. The manual you need is the 5600 manual. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

i have the 5600 100T model. how do i know the time of day when it regenerates and the plumber did not hook it up to the kitchen sink...how do we do that? and finally do the gears in means the day it recycles or gear out?

A:

Hello,

The pins pushed out trigger regeneration at 2 am with the clock set at the current time of day.  You may change the kitchen cold to soft water through a crawl space or unfinished basement.  The unit using too much salt could be due to a couple of issues.  I have attached a manual for troubleshooting.

Please call our Service Department at 317-272-3000 or 800-447-5582 and they will be happy to answer your questions in detail.

Thanks for your inquiry and have a great day.

Q:

How much would it cost to have someone come look at ours. We bought the house with an aqua systems water softener and we have no manual. we don't know how to use it or if it works. Our dishes seem gross after they run through the dishwasher. Not sure what to do. 5600D150TB

A:

Hello,

Please see the attached manual and call our service department at 317-272-3000 for further assistance.  A service call is $82.50 plus parts or you may bring water to one of our stores for free testing.  The Greenwood store is located at 905 N SR 135 and can be reached at 889-6829.

Thanks for your inquiry and have a great day.

Q:

I have a AQUA Systems Model # SC100TB How do I regenerate my unit by gallons used rather then buy days? Thank you

Hello,

Your SC100TB should automatically be regenerating by gallons used, unless you have a certain day override on the programming.  Please call your nearest location or 1-800-447-5582 to direct you further in checking out the programming if necessary.  Thank you for your inquiry.

Q:

I have a SmartChoice Gen II softener and it indicates there are only 285 gallons remaining, but next regen is in 8 days. Should I do a manual regen and then change the time between regens to a smaller number of days?

A:

Hello,

The water softener you have automatically calculates your reserve based on your water consumption.  It calculates water used over a 63 day period and adjusts accordingly.  The 8 day remaining is based on your average, however if it needs to regenerate sooner it will do so automatically.  Please call our service department with any other questions 317-272-3000.  Thank you.

Q:

is there a way to winterize my softener (in the garage) and RO unit when my house will be vacant. Heat will be turned to 65 in the house, but just in case the power goes off I would like to have it winterized?

A:

The reverse osmosis feed should be shut off and the tank completely drained.  The water softener should be purged of water by disconnecting the brine line and placing the unit in “draw” for 20 minutes.  Please call our service department at 272-3000 for further assistance.  Thanks for your inquiry and have a great day.

Q:

Hi. We had an Aqua System softener installed in our new home in the fall of 2001. The softener is a WCC 100 T model. Our water source is a private well. On the morning of November 14, the last bathroom in the plumbing line had black particles in the cold water of the sink, tub and stool--the hot water was speckless (none of the other bathrooms had this problem and neither did the kitchen). This bathroom was the first use of water in the household that morning. I called the plumber who did our original plumbing and he said he would suspect the water softener. Since the original plumber does not do service work, I contacted a residential plumber who came out and said that he thinks it is the resin media from the softener. After a few days, the black particles dissappeared. The plumber advised me today that he can not get replacement parts for my softener and suggested getting a new softener. Do you have anyone in my area that does service work on our model of softener and are there replacement parts available for this unit.

A:

Hello, Thank you for contacting us.  The answer to your questions is yes we do carry replacement parts for the water softener.  Please contact our local Fort Wyane office for help.  Our number is 260-483-3963.

Sincerely,

Steven Crane

Q:

do you reset softer when it says low salt

A:

Hi

You can press any button and the softener will go back to its normal display. Low salt is just a reminder it is getting low on salt. Just add salt pretty soon and you will be all set. If you do not add salt the next time the softener cycles it will remind you it is low again. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

Hi Do you carry the Fleck 5600 sys? If so I would like pricing on a 5600/timer,80k gr., 1" plastic yoke, 1" S.S. bypass and shipping cost if not included to 46562 zip or can be picked up in warsaw indiana store.

A:

Hello, Thank you for contacting us.  We do carry a 5600 Timer and accessories.  Please call me at my Fort Wayne store.  My number is 260-483-3963.  I will be able to give you prices on a system and shipping.

Q:

Hello, what is an air gap in regards to a water softener? Is that something I can buy at your store? Is it simple to install? Please, let me know as I apparently need to install one on my water softener. Thank You

A:

Hi

An air gap is a device designed to keep the drain water seperate from usable water. We do carry them in stock. They are $18.55 + tax. It is simple to install. It glues onto an 1 1/2" pvc pipe. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

Do you sell a water softener that can be installed in an apartment or condo (smaller) and less permanent installation?

A:

Aqua Systems has water softeners that require as little as 12” x 24” of floor space available to purchase, finance or rent.

Please contact us via phone at 317-594-0644 or e-mail for more information or to arrange a home visit to verify the plumbing arrangement and space.

 Thanks for your inquiry.

Q:

How do we contact someone after hours when there is a problems?????????? Our system is making a hissing loud obnoxious noise. Do we let it keep going until hours in the morning??????

A:

Hi

It sounds like your softener may have been in a regeneration cycle. You may want to check the time to be sure the time of day is set to the correct hour of the day. If the time of day is set right you may want to call our service Department at 317-272-3000 We do have an emergency pager for after hours problems. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

Where can I find the black plastic E clip that holds the connection of the water bypass connector to the softner system?

A:

Hi

I would suggest calling our service Department to see if they have the clips in stock. 1-800-447-5582 Please let us know if we can help

Q:

I have a model WCC 32 T water softener that is not using salt and seems to have quit working. Is there a reset or manual regen cycle that will restart the system? Thanks

A:

Hi Stephanie,

Your control valve sounds like it is failing.  It may just be a timer motor problem, but more than likely you may need to replace it with a rebuilt valve.  We do carry the rebuilts at our Fishers location 11345 Allisonville Road.  You would need to bring in the old valve to do an exchange.  Please call if you have questions so we can help you remove the valve via phone.  If you prefer a service call, please call us at 594-0644 to schedule.  One last thing you could try is turning the middle knob to backwash and see if it finishes it cycles on its' own, however if it does work you would have to do this every few days to keep in soft water assuming everything else is working correctly.  Thank you.

Q:

My power went off last week ant the battery was low. My softener now recycles everynight. The time of day and time to recycle looks right. ??? How can I fix this?

A:

Hello

You may need to reset the hardness. Some softeners do have a regeneration over ride you may need to reset the over ride also. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

How do I drain a Smartchoice Water Softener?

A:

You may drain most of the water from the media tank by turning off the inlet to the softener and cycling the unit through backwash.  Please call the service department at 317-272-3000 or 800-447-5582 for more information about winterizing or moving the unit.

 Thanks for your inquiry.

Q:

Is it normal for the water level to be 8 inches deep in the salt storage bin? I have an Aqua 3000 system that has a 255 control valve. I am also having a problem locating the no. 5 valve to relieve system pressure. My manual says it's at the rear and you use a screwdriver but no can find.--- Marv

A:

Hi

That is about the right amount of water in your salt tank. The No. 5 valve is the third valve from the back under the cam on top. The valves are the brass tips that ride on the cam. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

my water has a very bad smell to it on the hot water side , i have a aqua system what can i do about the smell

A:

Hello,

Water heaters have an anode or magnesium rod that will cause an odor in the hot water.  Please see the attached instructions for removing the rod; it will void the warranty on your heater but will eliminate the odor.  You may also add ½ cup of chlorine bleach to the heater when you remove the rod.

Please call the service department at 317-272-3000 if you have any questions.

Thanks for your business and your inquiry.

Q:

I have a Aqua System Series 9000, I hear water running all the time and my basement floor is getting wet, I cannot see a leak but there is water running in the drain all the time and I hear water running in one of the hoses all the time. Thanks for any help you can offer me. Pamela Schell

A:

Hello,

It sounds like there is an issue with the control valve running water to the drain or perhaps being stuck in a cycle.  You may bring the controller to our store at 7785 E US Hwy 36 in Avon 8am-6pm Monday through Friday or 8am-2pm on Saturday or schedule a service appointment to your home.  Please contact the Service Department for more information and pricing.  Aqua Systems also has a trade-in program for your Series 9000 softener if you would like to purchase a new, high-efficiency SmartChoice Generation II softener with a seven year in home service warranty.  Please call 317-272-3000 or stop in for more information about service or purchase options.

Thanks for your inquiry and have a great day!

Q:

I have a Pure Choice Model #AQPC-35. In the last 3-4- weeks the faucet has started dripping when turned off. It does not leak below the sink - just out the faucet. I have looked at the owners manual for schematics and can't find them for the faucet base/lever. Can you tell me what I need ot do to stop this leak and how to do it? Regards, Ron PS We have been a customer of yours for many years and like your service and products!

A:

Hello Ron,

It sounds like the o-rings need to be replaced in your faucet.  We will hold a set up front at the customer service counter in Avon if you would like to pick them up, no charge.  Unfortunately, complete rebuild kits for the faucets are no longer available.  Replacing the faucet would be your next option if the o-rings do not fix the drip.

We are open Monday through Friday 8am – 6pm and Saturday 8am – 2pm; we will be closed on Memorial Day.

We appreciate your continued patronage and look forward to seeing you soon!

Q:

Q. I bought a cottage that has a AQUA 2 (serial #50738) I beleive this was installed in the mid 80's. It has a handle that I was wondering if it should be set at "SERVICE" OR "BYPASS". As you can see I have no manual to guide me. Also it appears to run constantly like it is draining water from my pump system. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Also do you have a dealer or service company in the cities of "Barrie" or "Orillia". Both cities are in Ontario, Canada. Thanks

A:

Your water softener is not one of our models, but the handle should be in the service position to provide soft water.  You may locate a water treatment dealer in your area at www.wqa.org .  Thanks for your inquiry!

Q:

I am going to be leaving the country for 6 months. Am I able to unplug my Series 3000 Water Softener during that period? Is there any chance of the lines clogging? If I were to leave it plugged in, and the salt reservoir filled, any issues with that choice? Please advice. -Nick

A:

Hello Nick,

The best thing to do is put the softener in bypass and unplug it.  That way the unit doesn't try to regenerate.  Also it would be recommended to empty you salt out of the tank.  If you leave the salt in there it will get very hard and bridge or clump together not allowing soft water when you return.  I would also recommend you shut-off your main shut-off so no water can run in your house while you are gone.  Also, turn off your hot water heater.  Thank you and have safe travels.

Q:

Q:

I bought a Series 9000 Water Treatment System from the Greenwood office in 1997. All of a sudden the motor in the Control valve drive assembly just started spinning. I have unplugged it for now. How do i trouble shoot this ? How can you tell if the problem is in the drive assembly >? What are my options ? Bill Reinhard

A:

Hi Bill

If it is our 9000 series softener you can bring the valve into one of our stores and it is $150.00 to swap the entire valve. If it was installed in 1997 the valve probably needs to be rebuilt. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

I'm looking for a diagram that you have posted inthe past that assisted me in replacing filters in the reverse osmosis system...

A:

Hi

You can get a copy of the owners manual from our website under products and services. It will walk you thru the filter change process. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

We moved into a house with the 3 filter SQC system and the water storage tank is in the basement and appears to be a few gallons or more. However, if we fill up a couple of glasses of water, the flow slows to almost a trickle. There should be more water than that available. Any ideas? Thanks

A:

Hello

It sounds like your tank needs to be re-pressurized. If you have a bicycle tire pump or air compressor. Turn on your drinking faucet and let it run until it slows down to trickle. Leave the faucet open and pump air into the tank. There is an air valve on the tank just like a tire valve. Pump air into the tank until the water flows from the faucet pretty well. When it slows down pump air into the tank again. You may have to repeat this several times to pump all of the water from the tank. When the tank is empty of water leave about 8 to 10 pounds of air in the tank and allow it to re-fill with water and you should be all set. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

Moved into a house containing an Aqua Systems Water Softener, model WCC150D, serial # 01250426010. No manual available. Do you have a manual explaining what the dials are telling me so I can adjust as necessary?

A:

The manual for your water softener can be found at www.ilovemywater.com under the "products" tab.  The dials on a WCCD model represent hardness, number of people and capacity.  Please call Aqua Systems Partner Services department at 800-272-5511 to locate a service provider in your area if needed.

Thanks for your inquiry!

Q:

We have Aqua System -Series 9000 Water Treatment System Model Number WBC 100T Water Softener. The timer is not moving around--the motor is humming but the gears do not move. What would we need to order.

A:

Hi

It may just be a bad timer motor. But I would check to be sure no gears are stripped or broken. Depending on how old the valve is it may need to be rebuilt. The valve needs to be rebuilt about ten to fifteen years. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

I currently have an Aqua system and have recently experienced reduced water pressure in the home; when I by pass the unit my water pressure stays constant. Is it time to change out the system? Also, I looked at Keneticos Mach system with the twin tanks; how does your twin tank system match up? Will it take the chlorine out of the water?

A:

Hi

If your water pressure is decreased thru the softener it sounds like the resin needs to be replaced. Normally about 10 to 15 years the resin will need to be replaced if you are on city water the chlorine will deteriorate the resin and it will need to be replaced. We do carry softeners that will remove the chlorine from your water if chlorine is a concern. The resin can be replaced without replacing the entire system at a much lower price. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

My Gen II water softner is located in my unheated garage. Please advise if the Gen II control head and the top of the water softner tank should have electrical tape and be insulated. The garage is 30 deg. F when the outside temperature is 15 deg. F. I don't want to take a chance. Any advice would be helpful Thanks, Don

A:

Hi Don

it would not hurt to insulate the softener just to be safe. Or I have seen a heat lamp by the softener just to be sure it wont freeze. I'm not sure I would use heat tape on the softener itself. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

I have one of your WS1 150TB softeners in my home. 15 grains of hardness is currently programmed into the unit. QUESTION: If I change the grains of hardness from 15 to 30, will I get softer water coming out of the tap ? Thanks, Gary

A:

That depends on what the hardness of the feed water is. The grains of hardness programmed should equal the total compensated hardness of your incoming water so the unit can provide soft water accordingly.  Increasing the programmed grains above what is actually coming in to the unit will make the water any softer (if all is working properly).  Water is either perfectly soft with zero grains of hardness or contains some hardness.  Please contact your local dealer for more information or our dealer services department at 800-272-5511 to locate a store in your area.  Thanks for your inquiry.

Q:

I got my water softener up and running last spring. It had a salt bridge and I had to break that down and take out all the salt. It has been working just fine all summer (using the salt, and the water spots went away on our dishes, etc...). About two weeks ago the water started to taste funny...like it might have had a little more iron in it. Then, just last week it started tasting like someone had dumped a cup of salt in every glass that we tried from the tap. I am assuming that there is something wrong with the softener. I cant find much online doing research. Is there something I can do to figure out what is wrong, or something to check to fix this salty taste? For now I have the softener on bypass. (its a kenmore softener)

A:

Hi

Normally if the water is salty the drain may be restricted or kinked. If the drain seems to be O.K. there is an internal problem with the softener valve itself not allowing it to backwash all of the sodium out. If it is the valve you may want to consider replacing the softener. It is pretty expensive to have a Sears valve rebuilt. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

model# wcc 32 t ser.#943000151 softener makes a constant humming sound, no previous problems with unit

A:

Hi

It sounds like your timer motor is buzzing. If it is installed where the noise doesnt bother you I wouldnt worry about it. If it does bother you it can be replaced. A new timer motor is about $53.00. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

how do i reset the air pressure in the reverse osmosis tank? i know it should be 5 psi, but i can't recall how to reset.

A:

Hi

To re-pressurize your tank you will need to drain all of the water from the tank with a bicycle tire pump or air compessor. When there is no water in the tank at all leave about 5 to 8 pounds of air in the tank and allow it to refill and you should be all set. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

I have an older Aqua Systems softener. It has the black timer head that has been replaced a number of times throughout the years. I noticed that my water pressure was low the last few weeks then yesterday my water turn brown and had the resin pellets coming through my lines. I turn the bi-pass lever on to stop it and flushed out my lines. Can the resin tank go bad or does it need to be replaced after many years of use? Or have i done something wrong? Thanks! Mike

A:

Hi Mike

If you are on city water the resin will last somewhere around 15 years or so depending on the chlorine content of your water. If you are on a well it depends on your water conditions how long the resin will last. The resin tank can be replaced but it depends on how your valve is operating if it would be worth putting much money into your old softener. It also depends on what size softener that you have as to the replacement cost. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

i have a model wcc 100t and have lost the manual . How do i turn up the level of salt i want ? I do see the wheel with all the metal fingers just not sure how to adjust . thank love the softner

A:

Q:

where can I find the instructions on how to change the filters on my RO system?

A:

Hello

Q:

I have a Aqua System water softner that was made at 12505 Rockville Rd. Indianapolis. It is a Serial #921411216 Model #WCC 320 Would you be able to provide me with a manual for this unit?

A:

The manual for your water softener is located under "Products" at www.ilovemywater.com.  It is the Series 9000 Water Softener.  Please call 800-447-5582 if you have any questions or need technical assistance.  Thanks for your inquiry!

Q:

I have a series 9000 system that sticks during the recharging cycle. What can I do? Do you still cary parts for that model? Thanks, Larry Hoppes

A:

Hi Larry

If your valve is sticking in a cycle the timer motor is getting weak or the valve needs to re-built. If you bring your valve into one our stores it is $150.00 to rebuild the entire valve. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

How do i reset my system to cycle once a week ? Model WCC 100T

A:

Hi Bud

The system you have is a twelve day timer so you will probably want to set to go every 6 days. The days you want the system to cycle you will want to push the pins out away from the center that will make it cycle on the sekected days. When the oins are pushed in toward the center it will skip those days. You can also get a copy of the owners manual from our website at www.ilovemywater.com under products and services. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

Haven't heard back -- but we bought a house with an Aqua Systems water softener - the model number is 155-52-0. It was purchased form the Avon, IN store according to the label on the side. Anyway, I was hoping to get an owner's manual for it as the seller didn't have one. Thank you.

A:

Hi

You can get a copy of the owners manual for the softener that you have at our website www.ilovemywater.com under products and services. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

I bought a house with a water softner in the house and it came from your Avon store. Model 9000tw The house sat empty winterized for over 1 year and the system. When I plug the unit in it seems to do turn on but I do not know how it works and would like a manual and any steps on how to clean or operate the unit to get it functional

A:

Hi

You can print a copy of the manual for the softener that you have from our website. They are under products and services. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

I have an Aqua Systems Series 9000 System installed in my house from a distributor who is no longer in business. I have had the system for over ten years. It still runs but I don't know if it is doing any good. Should I have the resin replaced. There is also a second tank filled with (carbon or charcoal)? What is the useful life of this system? What are my options for refreshing, or replacing it if it is beyond useful life? You can call me if that is easier than emailing. Cell phone 267-980-5273. Thank you. -- Jim Suyo

A:

Hi Jim

The resin in your softener will normally last about 12 to 20 years depending on your chlorine content. The carbon will last about 3 to 5 years depending on the chlorine content of your water and how many people live in your home. The carbon can just be replaced. Remove the old carbon and refill with new carbon. You can also have your water tested to see if it is still soft and also the chlorine content to see if the carbon is exhausted. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

We bought a house w/ an older Aqua Systems water softener system. The tag on the unit says that is is Model # 155-52-0 w/ Serial # 922181740. The seller did not have an owner's manual for the unit and I did not know if there was one available. We have never had a water softener and I want to make sure that it "recycles" approratiately. We mistakenly let the tank run out of salt - we refilled it half way last night and I am going to pick up more salt today - however, I don't know how the thing "knows" to operate now that it has salt in it again. Thanks.

A:

Hello,

You can obtain a manual from our website www.ilovemywater.com under product and services.  We also recommend our pure grade salt that can be picked up or delivered to our home.  Our nearest store to you is in Fishers.  The phone number is 594-0644.  Please let us know if we can be of any assistance.  Thank you.

Q:

I am moving to Noblesville and am bringing my water softner with me.I have twin tanks made by Purtian and installed by Hawkins water softner company in Elkhart,In. This system cost me about 1800.00 dollars. I am having a plummer install it .Can I get somebody to test the water and program it.

A:

Hello,

Yes you can bring the water into our Fishers store to have it tested.  Since we don't sell Puritian systems if you bring in the manual we should be able to tell you how to progam it.  If you would like us to come out and set up the system it is a $85 charge.  We would also like to recommend our salt.  Please feel free to call our Fishers store at 317-594-0644.  Thank you for your inquiry.

Q:

Hello, We have a model# 155 32 T last night it started running and has never stopped. I can't seem to find an internal shut off we unplugged it but the water continues to run.

A:

Hi

If your softener has a by pass valve on the back you can by pass the softener. If you do not have a by pass you can take the cover off of the top. There is a button in the center that has a screwdriver slot in it push it in with a screwdriver and turn it to service or conditioned water and that will stop it from draining water. You are welcome to call our service department at 317-272-3000 if you would like to set up a service call. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

Hello, I just purchased a house that has your model 440i water softener installed. The softener was not used for 10 months. This is my first softener. How do I disinfect it properly before use.

A:

Hello

If you are on city water you will not need to do anything just start it up. If you are on well water just add a cup of laundry bleach and put your softener thru a cycle. That will sanitize the system and you should be all set. If we can help Please let us know.

Q:

I have a model 2510D 75STD that was professionaly installed on 11/05 by Kevin's Soft Water in my basement. It worked fine and I regularly added salt. I had the unit reinstalled upstairs in a utility closet in 2007 as my basement was finished. The unit has never cycled regularly since it was moved by my plummer. I had Kevin's soft water out a couple of times but he never could figure out the problem. I brought the head unit out to the service dept in Avon last year and was told the gears were stripped and it was rebuilt (which I paid for). It still only cycles when I do it manualy. The salt level never drops. I now have gold resin beads which are clogging up my aerators in my sinks which my plummer has informed me that my resin tank has a leak and I need a whole new unit (this is not Kevin's soft water). I have never heard anything bad about the Aquasystem units and chose it due to the recommendations I have heard. Is the resin tank under warrantee since it has been in service for less than 5 years? Do I really need to replace a $1.200 unit after only a few years the unit actually performed?

A:

Hi

If you are getting resin in your water lines it is plumbed backwards which would explain why it doesnt cycle on its own or the distributer is bad. It really sounds like it is hooked up backwards since it has not worked since being moved. I would check the plumbing first.

Q:

I'm having problems understanding how to set my timer.I have a metered model wc100d. I wanted to just set it to run as needed and set it for 2 people. Do you have a publication with better instructions than the original manual for this? Thanks, Robb

A:

We do not have a different manual for the WCCD. The easiest way to set the system is to align the people wheel with the hardness wheel by grasping the outer clear ring and turning to the proper setting.  In your case, line up the "2" on the people wheel with the "22" on the hardness wheel and that will set the unit and allow for reserve.

Please call your local store at 765-447-3397 if you have any other questions.  We appreciate your business and your inquiry.

Q:

How much salt does your softener use?

A:

Most Aqua Systems water softeners use eight pounds of salt per cubic foot of resin per regeneration.  Actual salt usage varies depending on the unit, water conditions and the amount of water used in the home.  Please call 800-447-5582 for more information and an estimate of how much salt may be used for your specific application.  Thanks for your inquiry.

Q:

I havetiny beads in my facuets is my system broke model wccd series ?

A:

It sounds like resin is coming through your system.  Please contact our service department at 317-272-3000 if you have not already done so and they can explain repair options to you. Thanks for your inquiry.

Q:

I just bought a house with an Aqua Systems wayer softener...model 255ED150TB. which manual applies, please? Thanks

A:

The manual for your water softener is the 255 with 460i control and I have sent one to your e-mail address.  Please call the service department at 317-272-3000 if you have any questions.  Thanks for your inquiry.

Q:

I have a water softner from Aqua Systems serial no 01110727461 Part # 5600T150TB. It was installed in our house in 2001. A few days ago I noticed a pool of water around it and it seems like it's coming from the main column? I switched the walve on "bypass" and disconneceted it from the electric outlet. Are these the right steps to disconnect the system and will they prevent the water leak? The water leak has not been too big so far and the system is located in the basement near ot the drain. What is the cause of the water leak? Is it possible to fix it without replacing the system? What is the next step? Thank you Tanya Saftalov

A:

Hi Tanya

It depends on what is causing the leak but about anything on your softener can be replaced. If it is the mineral tank it is $407.50 + tax to replace but it could be the valve leaking also. If you have the system on by pass that will keep it from leaking. We would really need to take a look at the softener to let you know exactly what is causing the leak. Please let us know if we can help. The Fishers store # is 594-0644

Q:

we just had the gen II system installed and cold water has a salty taste. What can be done?

A:

Hello

I have sent your inquiry to our Fairview Heights store. They will be contacting you regarding the problem you are experinecing

Q:

I have a water softener from aqua systems...the model is 255 100 ED and the serial number is 990204 11653. I am located in Fishers, Indiana. We are relatively new owners of the house that the water softner was in. Recently, our water hasn't seemed very soft, so we are afraid that something is either wrong with the system or that we have it on the wrong setting. If someone could walk me through what I need to do to get the system back onto the correct setting to get the system to produce softer water again that would be great. Thanks.

A:

Hi

If you would give me a call at 594-0644 I will be happy to walk you thru the set up for the softener that you have. You can also print a copy of the owners manual from our website under products and services if that helps.

Q:

My aqua system softner comes on 2 or 3 times a week. How do I reset the system. Or is there a dealer in my area I can call to service it.

A:

Aqua Systems does not have any dealers in California.  You may find a water treatment company in your area at www.wqa.org - Thanks for your inquiry!

Q:

Hi, question - We have an Aqua Systems water softener and this is what it's doing - it appears to be going into regeneration cycle, but the timer get hung up and stops in the brine wash step? We have done the unplug, reset and start trick, but it doesn't seem to help, same thing happened again, Any suggestions.

A:

Hi

If your valve is sticking in a cycle either the timer motor is getting weak or the valve needs to be rebuilt. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

i have a aqua system softner and i need to know what position the regeneration pins should be for regenerate in or out.

A:

Hello

If you could let me know what model of softener you have we can let you know. On the 9000 series they need to be pushed out to cycle. If you have the 3000 series they need to be pushed in to cycle. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

Does Aqua Systems put flouride in the drinking water?

A:

Hello

Aqua Systems does not add Flouride to our bottled water. It is Flouride free. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

I just recently purchased an AS RO system in Fort Wayne after moving into a new home. I have been searching for any place that sells water hardness test kits because I'm interested in knowing the grains/gal of my supply. It seems that this would be a simple kit sold at any hardware/home store, but I cannot find one anywhere. Since AS also deals with softeners, do you have hardness test kits that I could buy from your store?

A:

Hello, Thank you for contacting us.  To answer your quesiton, Yes we do carry several types of hardness test kits.  Please call our local Fort Wayne office at 260-483-3963 and we would be happy to explain the different kinds and prices.

Sincerely,

Steven Crane

Q:

my time clock for schedualing regeneration seems to be sticking.I am missing the manual to reset my system.I believe it is the 3000 system.need manual or sugestion on setting. thanks Fred C

A:

Hi Fred

I will send a copy of the manual you requested to your E-Mail address

Q:

I have a model WCCT100TB on a timer. How much water is used by this unit during regeneration? In a household of 2 persons, how often is regeneration recommended?

A:

Hello

The model you have uses about 50 gallons of water per regeneration cycle. It depends on how hard your water is there but with 2 people on city water about twice a week will be very close. If you are on a well it depends on how hard the water is and how much Iron is in the water.

Q:

My water softner (dual tank) with control model # 440i runs continuously without stopping. I manually regenerated the system and set it to "Treated Water" again, but the water is flowing all the time without stopping. Any suggestions? Thanks!

A:

Please bypass the water softener and have the unit serviced.  The service department is open until 2 pm today and can be reached at 317-272-3000.  Thank you!

Q:

i have the reverse osmossis system but it only gives me about a coffee pot full of water at a time and that is not enough for coffee and cook too.do you have a filter system to remove the bad taste from city water, we live on the west side of indianapolis.we had a cooler before we got the system but it was too much trouble with the water containers.we have a softener from aqua systems also.thanks.

A:

CJ,

One thing you might check on your reverse osmosis system is that the holding tank is set at the proper pressure.  There is a bladder in the holding tank and it does lose air like a tire whenever filters are changed.  Many times the tank becomes water logged and it will not give much quantity.  If you have an air compressor or a bicycle pump you can re-pressurize the tank.  Turn off the incoming supply line to the reverse osmosis system and find the valve on the bottom or top of tank to add air to.  Flip on your r.o. faucet and hook up the pump and turn it on allowing all of the water to be drained out of the tank.  Run it until the faucet has a drip.  Check the pressure with a small tire guage.  The proper pressure when the tank is empty should be 8-10lbs.  Please get it to this pressure once you do you should be able to get more quantity.  If the tank is bad you will not be able to drain the water out.  Please let us know what other questions you might have.

Q:

My Aqua System was recently unplugged for a few days awaiting maintanance. Before the shutdown, it cycled at 10:00 a.m. After resart, it's cycling at 2:15 a.m. I prefer the 10: 00 a.m. I understand this setting is internal. Is that correct? Can I fix this by setting back the time of day clock? Thanks, Rick Cisler

A:

Yes, the internal default regeneration time is 2 AM and you may set the clock foward or back to change it.  The clock should be set 8 hours behind the actual time of day to make the softener regenerate at 10 AM.  Please call our Columbus, Ohio store at 800-533-9283 if you have any questions.  Thank you!

Q:

I have recently bough a home with a water softener. It appears to be an older version of what you have listed as the Series 3000. There is a Springsoft International sticker on it, but I can't find a model number. I am not having any problems, but there is a screen that has the "PM" and "Water Low" written on it and there is a "2" lit up. I guess what I am looking for is help finding an owners manual because I have no idea what to do with this thing. Thanks Chris

A:

I have sent a seperate e-mail with the attached manual.  Thank you.

Q:

Error code 4003 on my Smart Choice Water Softener. any ideas on what to do?

A:

It is possible that the error is due to a power interruption and may be fixed by disconnecting the 12V AC power plug from the circuit board for 30 seconds and then reconnecting it.  Please call our service department at 800-447-5582 if you have any questions or would like to schedule a service call.  Thanks for your inquiry!

Q:

I have a water softener in my basement but I have been away from my house for 6 months. The last time I was gone so long the water looked and tasted rusty for about 2-3 weeks. Is there a treatment I can use to de-rust the water pipes quicker? Thanks for your help.

A:

Hi

Unfortunatly not. Any time you are away and the water sits in the pipes it will oxidize into a solid from sitting. The best thing to do when you are away is to cycle the softener as soon as you return. After the softener has cycled flush a cold water faucet and that should clear your water up pretty quick. If it is the hot water also flushing the hot water will clear it up. Or you can flush the hot water heater from the valve at the bottom of your hot water heater that will help flush it out.

Q:

I have an Aqua Systems sodium chloride, carbon and reson type system that is set to recycle weekly (7 days). If I am going to be away for a month is it only necessary to put the system on by pass in order to stop the system from automatically recycling? Should I also "turn" the water off and or pull the plug on the system?

A:

Hi

You can by pass the system and unplug it if you would like. It depends on what model of softener that you have some have a battery back up so you may not want to unplug it. Some people do shut the water off to the house when they are going to be away for a while so if a leak or something develops while you are away it wont do much damage. If you do shut the water off you will want to turn your hot water heater off or if it is gas turn it pilot. Please let us know if we can help.

Q:

I am thinking of investing in a water treatment system. The system would go into the laundry room. However I only have 1 outlet in there and the cable modem is already plugged into it. Is it okay for both things to be plugged into the same outlet?

A:

Hi

Our softeners use about the same amount of power as an electric clock so they dont use much power. You should be fine using the same outlet for your modem and softener.

Q:

I have aqua system series 9000 water softner model # WCCD100TB serial # 03110848468. It continues to provide soft water but we noticed that it has been getting stuck at the brine refill position. It tries to advance but makes a loud click and is unable to. I can advance it by manually helping the dial till it starts the refill and then it does it on its own to get to the service position. I have cleaned the brine tank and put new salt with iron out additive. I have also lubricated the wheels that are acccessible by opening the back of the valve body (as suggested by the service people at Lafayette location). Interestingly when we did a manual regeneration the system did make loud click noises at several areas of cycling as if it was unable to advance but it did eventually advance to the settle rinse cycle. The system regenerates at 2 am and at about 4am the timer stops advancing which coincides with the brine refill position. There are morning when the system is at service position and I am not sure if it is because it went throught the cycle on its own or if the system didn't regenerate. Is there anything I can do to fix this. Incidentally the home is only 6 years old and the system is newer than that and still under warranty. I would like to find out that info. as well. Thank you for any help you can provide.

A:

Hi

The softener that you have has a five year part and labor warranty and it was manufactured in 2003. I would suggest swapping the valve at one of our stores. It is $150.00 to rebuild the valve and the rebuilt valve has a one year warranty. Getting stuck in a cycle normally means the valve is hard to turn and making the timer motor weak that is why it is getting stuck in a cycle. You are welcome to contact our store near you at 765-447-3397

Q:

I have a GE water softener which was working fine since 2002. Since the last month, the water level in the salt chamber if higher than the salt level (it is at about 6) and has not been draining. I cleaned the venturi this morning and recharged the system but the problem did not go away. what would be the charge to fix this?

A:

Hi

We charge $82.50 for a srvice call plus parts. We do not carry GE parts. You are welcome to call our service dept. to schedule a service call at 272-3000 if you would like.

Q:

I just purchased a model WS1 demand softener, I have a tankless water heater and we have 5 children at home. We use alot of water should we have gone with the 9100 series or no ? Can I convert to a 2 tank system with my existing new system in the future if I need to. We love our installer and we love Aqua Systems.

A:

Good Morning

The WS1 is a demand system so if it is sized correctly it should keep up with your usage very easy. The softener you have can not be converted into a twin tank system without replacing the entire system. We always like to hear when our customers are happy with our products and employees. Thank you for choosing Aqua Systems.

Q:

I have an aqua system water softener. I'm wondering how much water should be setting in the bottom of the bin that holds the salt? Also, why are there things floating in the water? It looks like alge. Thanks

A:

Hello

It depends on what size softener that you have but somewhere around 4 to 12 inches from the bottom with no salt. The softener puts hard water in the salt tank so you will get some build up. If you are on a well you put a cup of Bleach in the salt tank and should clear it up. If you are on city water you should not have to do anything.

Q:

We have a Culligan system that we purchased in 2005, and we have never been happy with it. Since Day One, we feel that we haven't noticed much of a difference in our water even though Culligan says it "tests" at zero hardness. We still notice greenish rings in our toilets (which we clean every week), rust colored sediment in toilet tanks and dishwasher. Also, last week our hot water tank filled with frothy, milk-white saltwater. We called Culligan and they said the regeneration cycle must have been interrupted due to a power surge or outage (we had none that we know of--none of our clocks were blinking that morning). We've had Culligan service out regarding the sediment issue, and they've told us nothing is wrong (and then charge us $50 for a service call). We are fed up with them and are considering starting out from scratch. My question: will an Aqua Systems softener take care of those rings in the toilet, the rust stains, and be reliable enough not to dump a bunch of salt into our hot water heater? We are willing to make an investment for a system that works for us.

A:

Hello and thank you for contacting us.  The problems you are experiencing a working water softener will prevent, as long as the water is within normal parameters.  To determine how bad your water is, please bring a sample of cold soft, hot soft, and raw water (typically form an outside faucet) to our store on Dupont (we are located across form the new parkview hospital).  We can test your water for free and determine how hard your water is and how well your current system is working.  Based on the smaples we will be able to determine what is necessary to clean your water.  If you have any other questions please let me know.

Q:

I just purchased a house that has an existing water softener from aqua systems. A model 9000 I believe from the manual left us. I do not believe it is working properly as when I turn it to regenerate it does nothing. Also, there is only 5 or so inches of water in the tank where you put the salt (no salt currently). Is maintenance required or is there a setting I need to check? Thanks!

A:

Hello

If the timer motor is bad it will not keep the correct time of day and it will not cycle. You may want to check the plug in to make sure it is getting power if it is the timer motor may be bad. When you first turn it to regenerate it takes about 1/2 hour before you will here water running thru the softener but it should move thru every cycle on its own. The entire cycle takes about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. If the motor is working you can just add salt wait about 2 hours and manualy cycle the softener and you should be all set. If you do need service call 317-272-3000 and they will get you taken care of.

Q:

I just moved into a new house that has an Aqua System (I think series 3000). Can you send me a manual please?

A:

Hi Brian

I have sent you a copy of the manual you requested to your E-Mail

Q:

I have a system from you all, but I am experiencing some days salted water, and other days not. It does not seem to have a pattern to it. Any suggestions? Val Uselton

A:

Hi Val

It could be several things. It could be a restricted drain not allowing the softener to backwash out all of the sodium or a restricted drain line flow control or it could be the resin has become fouled. You may want to check to make sure it is set to the correct time of day also. Please let us know if we can help

Q:

I have a water softner model WCC-200T from your company that has been in my home for about 6-7 years. It was installed by a local company that also services it. I have been recently having problems with its operation even after servicing 3 seperate times. In the am after a softner cycling overnight I have salt water brine in my water until the lines are completly flushed. This condition is worse on some cycles. The softner is now using 16-17 lbs per cycle. Is this a excessive amount? I added 300 lbs of Dura Cube Rust removing salt and it was used in 17 cycles. Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Greg Stonehill

A:

Mr. Stonehill,

I have sent your e-mail to our dealer service division to get this to your nearest dealer.  However, the two cubic foot system is set up to use 16 pounds of salt per generation because it is a very large system.  In saying that you should not have any brine solution in the water after regeneration if the control valve is working correctly.  Something is not functioning properly in the regeneration process.  I would have them diagnose it again for you.  Please let us know if we can be of any assistance.

Q:

I had purchased your whole house system 1 i/2 years ago and it never seemed to make any difference till the Rep came and had to replace the timing unit which was broke and apparently not working for over a year.Besides that;now that it has been about 4-5 months since running; Please tell me what the readings from the strip test are suppose to read and still the water after a shower feels slimmy on ones skin which I thought was not to be happening if the system was working and running correctly?!?There has still since installed been a film on stainless steel faucets which the Rep said would resolve itself if working correctly. My readings:Drinking system(nitrate-0-5ppm/PPm-750)WholeHouse system(nitrate-0-5ppm/PPm-250-500).Please tell me what readings are safe and good working order and where to find a print-out or listing of the information to refer to.Also what to do to make changes if there is a problem for the manual is not very clear on remedies unless one has to call a service rep.constantly.Thanks,J Spinelli(Water Max System-series 50 + Reversse Osmosis sytem)

A:

Hello,

I am not sure who sold you the system but we do not carry that reverse osmosis system.  The water will only feel slick in the shower if you have a working water softener.  As far as the reverse osmosis system it should remove the total dissolved solids at a rejection rate of at least 90%.  However, if you have bacteria in the water it will not remove that unless you have some ultra-violet light or chlorination system.  There are too many variables here to answer your questions point blank.  I would contact the manufacturer of the equipment or the company that you bought it from.  We are based in Indianapolis, Indiana and am not sure who you bought the equipment from.  Please let us know if we can be of any other assistance.

Q:

I am looking for a manual for a 155 32 T model Aqua system. I recently purchased a home with this system. House was vacant for almost 3 years. When house was "started up" system seemed to work fine for about 4 months, now we have softwater somedays and not others?

A:

We sent an owner's manual to your e-mail address.  Please call our service department at 800-447-5582 if you have questions about set up or operation of the unit.  Thank you!

Q:

my system doesn't sound like it's shutting off and periodically it emits a loud click. Any ideas what's going on?

A:

It sounds like your softener is stuck in cycle and the clicking noise is caused by the cam not turning properly.  This may be due to the timer motor not working and/or the valve discs need to be replaced.  A new timer control assembly is $123.42 and a valve disc kit is $27.33.  A service call is $82.50 or you may bring the unit to the repair department in Avon or pick up the parts and replace them yourself.  I cannot be sure that this will completely take care of the issues without a service technician looking at the unit.  Please bypass the unit and unplug it if you have not already done so.  Please call 317-272-3000 for more information.  Thank you.

Q:

We recently purchased a home w/ a water softener that is an Aqua Systems water softener. I cannot find an owners manuel and was wondering if there is a way to track one down. The only info I have on the unit is that it is model #5600D100TB Serial #03220949381. It was not in use at purchase and we are unsure how to operate and what type of salt should be used. Would you be able to help us track down this info? Thank you!

A:

Please see the attached manual for your water softener and the price sheet for salt pick up and delivery.  We recommend the Aqua Systems salt in the blue and white bag for city water and the RedOut in the red and white bag for well water with iron.  This salt is a pure food grade salt guaranteed not to “mush” or “bridge” in your salt tank.  You may use a pellet type salt from a grocery or discount store if our locations in Avon, Fishers and Greenwood are not convenient for you.  We also have a delivery service available and will put the salt in for you if you like.  Please call our service department at 317-272-3000 or 800-447-5582 if you have any questions.  Thank you.

Q:

I have an sc150tb a/n 0420 05 54796. we moved it from a previous home of ours. I doesn't seem to be working as well and was wondering if I could adjust the output of the system. thanks

A:

We have sent an owner's manual for the SmartChoice water softener to you and our service department may be reached at 317-272-3000.  We can talk you through the system set up and test water in the store if you like.  Thank you.

Q:

I have a Series 3000 Demand model (255ED100TB). It got unplugged and I went through and set the time, hardness (24 as told), and don't know what the capacity should be (it is at 10). It is only 2 of us in a small condo. In the process, I pulled out a timer locking pin, which will not go back in. What should our capacity be? How do I get the timer pin back in? What else do I need to do? The unit is only 10 months old. Thank you.

A:

The capacity should be set at 24.  The timer pin (plastic "flag" piece) should go back in the opening if you turn the cam a little to allow it to slide into position.  Please call our service department at 317-272-300 or 800-447-5582 for additional information.  Thank you!

Q:

I have a Aqua Systems model WCC 100 T serial number 9820077708, can you email me a manual? Thank you very much.

A:

Hello,

I will send a separate e-mail with the attached manual.  Thank you.

Q:

I have a Series 9000 Water Treatment System, Timer Model. I need to know how to set the softner to automatically regenerate. Should the pins be moved out (away from the center) on the days it should regenerate or should the pins be pushed to the center for regeneration? The Owner's Manual does not specify. Thank you.

A:

The pins should be pushed out, away from the center for the regeneration days.  Please call our service department at 317-272-3000 if you would like assistance by phone. Thank you.

Q:

we have an aqua systems water softener at our residence and it runs during the afternoon. We tried resetting the timer to 3am, but it still runs during day (we chose the 3 without the dot) How do we properly reset timer.

A:

Hello,

The timer needs to be set to the current time of day so it knows that at 2:30-3:00 a.m. on the day of regeneration to go at that time.  Please let us know if you have any other questions.  Thank you.

Q:

Our home had to be reconstructed after the June 2008 flood in Franklin, IN. An Aqua Systems 5600 Econominder water softener was installed. There are 2 adults in the family. We periodically run our of soft water. I cannot make heads or tails out of the dials on the softener. The only information that I was given is for instsllation and start-up. The instructions are too technical for me. Are you able to give me some practical instructions for checking the dials and setting them so that we have soft water at all times?

A:

We have sent an owner's manual with more detailed instructions to your e-mail address.  The Econominder settings are based on your water conditions and number of people in the home in order to regenerate as needed.  Please call 317-889-6829 or 800-447-5582 for more information or to schedule a service call.  Thank you.

Q:

My WCC52T series 9000 was installed in 1988 and last serviced April 2002. I believe it is malfuncting but how do I tell for sure. I did a manual regeneration as my sinks were showing red. I thought there was supposed to be a lot of gushing water take place during the cycles however I did not hear anything of that nature. How do I tell if it is working properly and is there a life expectancy on the water softner.

We can test your water at any store location or schedule a service call for $82.50 plus parts. We test hot and cold from a bathroom faucet and raw water straight from the well to determine how well the unit is working.  Different amounts of water flow to and from the unit during the regeneration cycle.  The WCC softener is designed with components that can be swapped out with factory refurbished parts as needed.  The control valve is currently $100.00 on a swap and the mineral tank is $225.00; they can be brought to an Aqua Systems store or serviced in your home with the additional service call charge.  Control valves can last 5-20 years and the resin in the mineral tank can last 5-25 years depending on water conditions and usage.  We also offer new, high-efficiency units with a 7 year parts and in-home service warranty if you prefer to replace the unit instead of having it repaired.  Please call us at 800-447-5582 for more information.  Thank you.

Q:

I currently have a Smart Gen water softener that I purchased back in 2007. We are in the process of moving to a different house, and we are taking the unit with us. I have been told about your disconnect/reconnect services already, but I wondered how I would go about disconnecting it on my own & then having your service technician reconnecting in our new home to save some $$.

A:

Hello sir,

You would need to put the unit in bypass.  If you don't want to mess with the plumbing you can thread off the bypass off the system and leave it there on the plumbing and buy a new bypass which is $32.58 plus tax.  If you don't want to buy a new bypass you will need to cut the plumbing and soder it back together.  The re-installation fee at your new house on a pre-plumb is $150.  The disconnect fee is $60.  Please let me know if you have any questions and have a good day.

Q:

I have a smart choice air induction filter system in the house that I just bought. My water has a real strong sulfur smell and is very hard. I've added salt to my tank and the smell is still just as bad. Is there something that I can do to fix this? Perhaps I could backwash my system? Any suggestions and the How To would be very helpful.

Q:

I have a reverse osmosis system under my sink in the house i bought a couple of years ago. I have never used it and the guy that owned the house be fore me said the faucet part had been broken for a while. So the system has not been used for a couple of years and the tap is busted. Do you perform service on your units? This filter is something I would use and would like to get it fixed. Thanks. Mark

A:

Hi Mark

If the R/O is one of ours we would have all of the parts to repair whatever problem you have. It sounds like you just need a new faucet. I would suggest repairing or replacing the faucet replacing the filters and sanitize the unit since it hasnt been used for a while-You are welcome to call our service Dept at 317-272-3000 to set up a service call. If we can help please let us know.

Can you email me an owners manual for our water softner model sc150tb. Our salt tank is empty of water and salt. I don't see a fill line. How much of each needs to go in the tank. THanks

A:

Hi  I would put about 5 gallons of water in the salt tank to get it started. As long as the water is covered with salt you will be fine. I will E-Mail an owners manual for the softener that you have. If there is anything that we can help you with Please let us know.

Q:

I have been looking at the web site looking for a filter for a water softner the filter type is A13310 just need to know if they will have them in the store or if I have to order them and wait I just moved in to a rental and it looks like the filter has never been changed on this thing... please let me know what I should do

A:

Please bring the filter cartridge to our store at 7785 E US Hwy 36 in Avon and we will attempt to match it with a comparable filter.  The most common filter for the whole house is a string wound filter to remove sediment and it is a regular stock item.  Our business hours are 8am-6pm Monday through Friday and 8am-2pm on Saturday.  Please contact our service department at 317-272-3000 for further assistance.  Thank you.

Q:

We have a 5600 100T model and need some literature for it. We don't know if it is working. Is it possible to get any paperwork on this model to set it up?

A:

An owner's manual has been sent to your e-mail address. You may bring hot and cold water samples from a bathroom to the local store at 11345 Allisonville Road in Fishers to determine if the softener is working properly. Please bring a sample of unconditioned water also if you have well water; it is not needed if you have a city/municipal water source.

We are open Monday through Friday 8am-6pm and Saturday 8am-2pm.  We are located just south of 116th Street on the east side of Allisonville Road.    Please call our service department at 800-447-5582 if you need further.

Q:

Do I need to sanitize my water softener before placing it into service? If so how do I do it?

A:

Water softeners should be sanitized after installation by adding 1.2 ounces of household bleach per cubic foot of resin to the brine well.  The brine well is the 4" round tube with a removable plastic cap on top.  Place the softener in regeneration mode after adding the bleach and allow it to cycle.  This completes the sanitizing process.

Please contact our Fort Wayne location at 877-640-4109 if you need further assistance.

Q:

Hi, We recently purchased a home with a clack water filtration system (not sure from where it was purchased, not more than 5 years old--we think the last homeowner bought it new and installed himself). The home was vacant for nearly a year, and we would like to have the system serviced to make sure it is working correctly (it is currently disconnected). Would you be available to service? We live in Peru, IN.

A:

Aqua Systems in Kokomo is your service contact.  They can be reached at 765-868-8009.

Q:

To restart clock on timer on water softner do I just put it to regen.after setting the clock? We have hard water still but I just noticed the clock was placed on service instead of regen. Please let me know because the rocks coming out of the faucet hurt. :)

A:

The water softener should be in the service position unless it is regenerating.  If the clock is set to the current time of day, the unit will regenerate at 2 am on the days that the pins are pushed toward the outer edge of the circle.  It is a 12 day timer (12 pins) and should be set to regenerate once every 3 to 12 days depending on family size and water hardness.  Please call our service department at 272-3000 or bring hot, cold and raw samples to the store if you would like us to test it.  The hot and cold samples should come from a bathroom faucet.

Q:

On the 3000 model, do you push in the pins to tell it to regenerate or pull out the pins?

A:

The Series 3000 pins should be pushed in for regeneration days.  The clock should be set to the current time of day for the unit to regenerate at 2am.
